I am a newspaperman. One of those ink-in-the-blood, what’s-my-deadline types. The kind of guy who always buys the local paper when I’m out of town, and puts “renew SPJ membership” on my Christmas list.
In short, the kind of guy you want when there’s a story happening in the Capitol City area and you can’t spare someone to make the drive.
What do I have to offer your publication? Award-winning quality. I am the only two-time winner of the Arkansas Press Association’s I.F. Stone Award for investigative reporting, and since 1997 I’ve won first place in news, in-depth reporting, sports and even headline writing at the APA Better Newspaper Contest. In 2007, the seven newspapers I led as managing editor brought home a total of 39 APA awards, including General Excellence for The Times of North Little Rock — its fourth consecutive win under my direction. In the SPJ-Arkansas Pro Chapter’s 2006 contest, my staff at The Times and I swept first place in all weekly paper categories.
Rates start at $50 for news and sports stories, $75 for feature writing. I can also provide photographs to go with stories, or for stand-alone art. Editing services are available for hourly or per-page rates. And I am available for extended periods to work on special projects. Please contact me for a full rate sheet, and to discuss how I can help you give your readers what they want.
